Autumn is such a beautiful time of the year, the promises of fluffy warm blankets, soft wooly jumpers and the smell of bonfires and hot chocolate. The sounds of the red and yellow Autumn leaves crunching below us as we walk and that magic hour of golden light as the sun starts going down.

It is such a magical season. The first and last hours of sun during the day have a beautiful quality to the light. The times around both sunrise and sunset are when the light is at its softest. Landscapes light up with such a gorgeous golden glow and that is why we adore our outdoor photoshoots. We have compiled a list of the most frequently asked questions that we get asked for those thinking of booking an Autumn photoshoot.

Where does the shoot take place?

Our outdoor photoshoots normally take place at Marbury Park, it has so many beautiful trees and woodland areas to capture beautiful shots. However, we are open to suggestions or ideas of your own. Perhaps you have a beautiful garden that you want to be your backdrop. We are also looking into other location shoots and will let you know of your options as soon as we can.

How many people can appear in the photoshoot?

We have packages for families with up to five people, but we can work with larger families on request. We also love including Dogs in our shoots. We have Dogs and know how important they are to you and become a part of your family, so it is completely understandable that you would want them included.

What should we wear?

Whatever you wear you should firstly be comfortable. Your shoes should be practical. We may have to take a little walk to find the perfect spot for your images, so a high heel stiletto is probably not the best choice. Jeans with big fluffy jumpers are warm and comfy and can look stylist and comfortable.

Colours that look great in Autumn photos are mustard yellow, burnt orange, brown and even dark green. Try and create a good blend of about 3 or 4 colours to build everyone’s outfits around. Matching woolly hats can look unbelievably cute and help tie in the family wonderfully. Try and avoid bright neon as they do not photograph well against the Autumn backdrop.

What type of images are taken?

We try and focus on the fun and a typical session normally lasts around an hour or so. The whole family being out for a walk against the Autumn scenery and the natural lighting will result in amazing images. We try and avoid too many posed shots and try and keep things as natural and fun as possible. We have tricks for people who want to lie amongst the leaves and not get dirty, and we know the children will love having a fight with the fallen leaves. If you have any props or have any specific images you want taken, we are happy to have those discussions before your shoot. We also have pumpkins that can be added to really bring that Autumn feeling.

Wet Weather Plan

We often get asked but what if it rains? Some people don’t mind a bit of rain, and in that case, we shall aim to continue as long as we can. However, if rain is not your friend never fear, we always have a plan B.
