For many families, a family photoshoot is not only exciting but also a little daunting.

You know you want professional photos of your children (who don’t seem to perform when you ask them for photos at home!) but where next?

You probably have a million questions –Where can we have the shoot? What time of day is best to have a family shoot? And what does a family photo shoot involve?

So, we hope this short blog can answer some of those questions. Firstly, let’s start with:

Where can we have the photoshoot?

That is entirely your decision. We offer either studio-based shoots, or with Summer approaching we can also have a location shoot. Some clients have a certain location for sentimental reasons. We love this and it makes the shoot seem so much more personal and meaningful in many ways. Perhaps your family has a beautiful back garden, or you want to take your children back to the place where you and your spouse were married and create some more memories. If you don’t have a particular location in mind, then there are some places that we can recommend. We really like visiting Marbury Park, as it has everything you need in a good location, with trees to climb, views over the water and a lovely play area.

It also helps us to know a little about your family and especially your children. There is no point in us suggesting some formal gardens if all your children want to do is climb a tree. So, we will give you a questionnaire to fill in with all the information we need.

When shall we have the shoot?

There are some things to bear in mind when deciding upon the time of day to choose a shoot, the first one being the best time of day for your little ones.

Have a think about nap time, does your youngest nap in the day? When are they happiest, before a nap or after? Keep this in mind when booking. None of us do well when we’re hangry, it’s always good to work around lunch time so that everyone is happy. If you’ve chosen an outdoor location, this is the perfect excuse for a picnic, maybe a slice of cake is the perfect bribe.

In the Summer months it doesn’t go dark until later but, in the Autumn, a 6.30pm shoot can mean some stunning sunset scenes. Plan this carefully with us so we can work out the best spot to make the most of nature’s beautiful backdrop.

What to expect in my photoshoot?

Some children love to pose and play around in front of the camera. They feel perfectly happy and at ease, other children can feel quite uncomfortable and would far rather play and be themselves than worry about posing. That’s perfectly ok, we work at that the children’s pace, we have children ourselves, So Ian is extremely comfortable being around children and will find ways of bringing them out of their shell, even if its playing in a pile of leaves or picking flowers for their parents. Bikes, Footballs, Bubbles or even the family dog can also be brought with you, anything that will help your children to feel relaxed, because a happy and relaxed child will produce far better photos.

It really is your Photoshoot to have how you want, if you’d like a mixture of photos, with parents, kids, and parents, or just your Children on their own, use your session time as you please, we want you to get the most out of the session, have lots of fun and make lots of memories. So, if you are interested in booking a family photoshoot, and making some wonderful memories, get in touch for a chat with us. We hope to see you and your family soon.
